Power and Responsibility in the field of Sign Language Interpreting.

This captivating topic promises a stimulating efsli conference 2012. The Austrian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ÖGSDV) is proud to host the 20th AGM and conference of the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli) in Vienna from 14th to 16th September 2012.
 

Power is a central issue of all interpreting settings and needs to be handled responsibly. How are power and responsibility distributed among all participating agents? How do they experience and handle their power and their responsibilities? Which factors can influence this distribution or have caused shifts in the past? Which aspects of power have an impact on interpreting settings?

These and more questions will be discussed at the conference. We will explore issues of power and responsibility in the field of Sign Language interpreting and encourage Sign Language interpreters and other experts from all over Europe to share their experiences and to reflect on this important topic from various perspectives.

We will do our best to provide you with an informative and stimulating conference and to give you a memorable time in a wonderful city. Celebrate the 20th anniversary of efsli, dance the waltz and enjoy a few days in Vienna, the heart of Europe.
