I am a full time freelance British Sign Language (BSL)/English Interpreter based in London, UK (born in New Zealand) and started my career in education supporting Deaf students in Further Education (16-19) became freelance at the end of 1999.
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in BSL/English Interpreting from the University of Central Lancashire (2000)
I was the National Chair of ASLI (Association of Sign Language Interpreters for England, Wales and Northern Ireland www.asli.org.uk ) from 2001 – 2005 and I continue to contribute to the work of the Association. I oversaw the Association as its turnover went from £20,000 to £120,000.
I first attended an EFSLI event in 2001 in Ede, Netherlands and have attended each event since. In 2003 ASLI hosted the 11th EFSLI AGM and Conference with 220 delegates from around 20 different countries. I now serve as Treasurer and am Head of EFSLI Finance.
In 2003 at WFD Montreal, I became a member of the WASLI Working Group preparing for the first WASLI Conference. This took place in South Africa 30 Oct – 2 Nov 2005 in Worcester. I was elected to the Board and now serve as Secretary.
From time to time I am involved in training and have run workshops or trained interpreters in Italy, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Japan as well as here in the UK.
