Sign language interpreters from all around Europe gather once a year to exchange experiences, share knowledge, and to gain expertise. The EFSLI meeting and conference is an opportunity many interpreters look forward to every year.
The profession of sign language interpreters is a young and rapidly growing profession. It is, therefore, vital for all interpreters to devote their time and energy to continuing education. Especially interpreters from West-European countries have had this growing opportunity throughout the last decade.
To guarantee that more European sign language interpreters can participate in the annual meet, EFSLI has set up the EFSLI Special Attendance Fund in 2004.
The EFSLI Special Attendance Fund provides financial support to interpreters from European countries with a GDP of 15.000* (fifteen thousand) Euro or lower to attend an EFSLI Conference and AGM.
The Special Attendance Fund receives its donations for the fund from interpreter organizations, special organized benefits, and from individuals. These donations are an essential part of the fund to be able to provide support to eligible interpreters.
In 2004, the starting year, the EFSLI Special Attendance Fund was able to provide for the first time support to two sign language interpreters from Latvia (Reports). In 2005 two sign language interpreters from Serbia & Montenegro (Reports). attended through the EFSLI Special Attendance Fund.
