Sweden – STTF
In 1969 sign language interpreters in Sweden founded SDTF (Swedish Association of Interpreters for the Deaf). The association decided to change the name to STTF (Swedish Association of Sign Language Interpreters) in 1980.
STTF has little over 300 members today, most of whome are interpreters working with deaf and deafblind people. In a total, STTF estimate that there are 400-450 sign language interpreters working in Sweden today.
Since September 2005 sign language interpreters can be tested and certified by The Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (Kammarkollegiet). So far approximately 70 interpreters have been certified in sign language.
