Dicta-Sign

Web 2.0 brings many new technologies to internet users but it still revolves around written language. Dicta-Sign is a three-year project funded by the European Union. Its goal is to produce tools that encourage the use of Sign Languages (SLs) within Web 2.0 technologies. Bringing together research institutes and companies from across Europe, it leverages multiple EU SLs; Greek, French, German and British. By comparing the dictionaries and the structures of these languages, it is possible to create software to recognise the signs produced in front of a camera. In parallel, a virtual signer (a computer-animated character able to produce SL) can be implemented to produce utterances from each SL involved in the project. At the end of Dicta-Sign’s second year, the work done so far is presented.  A summary can be found in the Newsletter, read the English version here: http://websourd.nnx.com/~mediav0/information/dictasign/16062011/english/nlenglish.html.Dicta-Sign project
